The short answer: most shops with more than a few dozen products benefit from barcodes. They make checkout faster, cut pricing and picking errors to near zero, and make stocktakes far quicker. The setup is cheaper and simpler than most owners expect.

What barcodes actually give you

When barcodes are worth it

If you carry many similar-looking items, sell at any volume, or struggle with pricing mistakes and slow checkout, barcodes pay off quickly. Very small operations with a handful of unique products may not need them yet — but most shops outgrow “no barcodes” fast.

Do your products already have barcodes?

Many manufactured goods arrive with a printed barcode (a GTIN) you can simply scan and use. For loose items, your own products, or anything without one, you print your own barcode labels — quick and inexpensive.

Getting started

  1. Use existing barcodes where products already have them.
  2. Print labels for the rest with a label printer.
  3. Scan with a phone or a cheap scanner — you don’t need expensive hardware.
  4. Grow into it — barcode your fast movers first, then the rest.

Barcodes, built in

RushFlow works with existing product barcodes, prints your own labels, and scans with a phone camera or scanner — so checkout and counting get faster from day one. See the live demo.
