Consignment: goods you place with a partner, or hold for one

Consignment covers two situations, and the system tracks the quantity sent, sold and returned for each, then posts the money side when you settle.

Out — your goods at a partner's shop

You place your goods with a partner (a reseller) who sells them for you. As they report sales, record the sold quantity on each line. When you settle, the value they owe you (sold quantity × your price) is booked as consignment revenue and a receivable from the partner.

In — a supplier's goods in your shop

A supplier leaves their goods with you to sell on their behalf. You sell them to your customers as normal; when you settle, what you owe the supplier is booked as a payable to them against your cost of those sales.

How to use it

  1. Create the consignment (in or out), the partner, and the lines with quantity sent and the unit price.
  2. As items sell, update the sold (and any returned) quantities.
  3. Settle when the period is done — the receivable/revenue (out) or cost/payable (in) posts to your books. Deleting a settled consignment reverses it.

Note: settlement records the money owed between you and the partner. For an out consignment, relieving the sold goods from your stock (cost of goods) is done separately, so the consignment on its own shows the full sale value until you do.
