Selling a shelf at one price
Some shops sell a whole shelf at one amount. A plain price lets a cashier ring that up by tapping the amount instead of hunting for the exact item, while your records still know which real products left.
It is a membership, not a merge
Each product stays separate, with its own code, its own cost and its own stock. The shelf is just the list of products that sell at that amount.
What the till does
The cashier taps the amount and types a quantity. The till takes those units from the fullest pile first. The total is always exact; per-item counts can drift. Scan the item instead of tapping the amount when per-item accuracy matters.
Turning it on
On the product itself under Options → "Sell at a plain price", or in bulk under Settings → Plain prices. Both enforce the same rules.
Why it leaves the online store
Shelf products are hidden from your online store automatically, and restored when they leave the shelf. Online there is no cashier deciding which item the amount refers to.
The switch is refused — with the reason shown — for variable products, services, combos, serial-tracked items, and anything with no price yet.
